Basketball - Perfect for Everyone

Introduction:

Basketball is a team sport where each player is tested with their discipline and helps them to:
  • Learn to use their time and energy wisely.
  • Set goals for themselves.
  • Work hard in order to obtain their goals.
  • Have fun and enjoy.
  • Burn calories.
  • Remain fit.
  • Build-up muscle.

What is basketball?
Basketball’s basic principle is teamwork. In order to score, you need to work together with your team mates. The ball must be protected not to be in the hands of the other team. It is a game in a motion where players should pass and move to open up the court for a teammate to score. It has been a casual exercise that has lots of running and jumping, which is a good workout for many. You can play it by yourself, but many get involve in competition games.

Evolution of basketball
Basketball was invented by an educator from Canada, James Naismith. This was the result when the YMCA leaders requested for an indoor entertainment which is a scrupulous and exciting one. It took Naismith and his helpers two weeks to complete the rules and was initially played by nine players only. The first ball used was a soccer ball and used a peach basket as hoops. Nowadays, it is a game that is played by people of all ages. Many have changed including the following:
  • The rules have been redefined.
  • Peach baskets were replaced by iron rims with nylon netting.
  • Basketball courts differ in sizes.
  • The height of the ring differs too, according to age or league.
  • Different shooting points are awarded; free throw is one point, lay-up or other shots is for two points, and a shot 15 feet away from the basket is for three points.
  • After a player who commits five or six fouls is disqualified from the game.
Gears in playing basketball
This is one of the sports that require a few equipment to play. Nonetheless, you will need extra protection because it involves a lot of running and jumping. Be sure to wear the following gears:
  • Rubber shoes that provide good ankle support
  • Mouth piece
  • Protective pads for elbow and knees

Health Benefits
This is a sport that is great as a workout. Other health benefits are the following:
  • Burn Calories – when you run up and down the court, the intensity of workout turns dynamic. Around 600 or 700 calories is burned when you play basketball for just an hour.
  • Build muscles, but not much – you will not build a lot of muscle in basketball, but by passing, dribbling, running and shooting it can tone your muscles. It is the best alternative for any individuals who are not into weight lifting’s
  • Great for coordination – this is a sport which is great to develop coordination among the hands, eyes, legs and arms. It is not a surprise how it brings wonder to clumsy kids. Many parents prefer to enroll their children for basketball clinics. 

Intentional Cardio Suggestions
·         Running Drills – test your limit by doing long series of running drills and to build endurance.
·         Sprints – one key element in this sport is speed and to test yours, try sprints and direction changing sprints.
·         Line jump – this is a simplest drill to improve agility. Players with great agility skills are helpful defenders. Try jumping low and fast for 30 seconds and rest for 30 seconds too. You can repeat this for six times.
