How did James Dean became immortal

James Dean is an American film actor and considered as a cultural icon. He is said to be the first teenager on screen where he played as a troubled young man, having problems with his parents and the rules that society laid on him. He only appeared in three movies: East of Eden, Rebel without Cause and Giant, which made him a legendary. From these movies, James Dean quotes were compiled and makes him alive in the hearts of the public.

Dean’s first appearance was for a television commercial of a soda. He then quit college and went acting for full time. He struggled to get into Hollywood, while working as an attendant in a parking lot in order to survive. During that time, he met his mentor Rogers Brackett who helped him with his chosen career and provided him a place to stay. He followed the advice of Brackett to move to New York and appeared in various television shows.

The positive reviews he gained from portraying different roles in television opened the door for him to be in his first major screen role, East of Eden (1955) and it was followed by Rebel Without a Cause. In his films, he usually appears as an angry youth, sleepy eyes, and has a reckless emotional acting style. Although all of these films were made in the same year, it was only a year after his death when Giant was released.

Humphrey Bogart once said, "It's a good thing [James] Dean died when he did. If he'd lived, he'd never have been able to live up to the publicity." Although James has a lot of supporters, many believe that he has gained a lot of popularity from dying at a young age.

It was true that he was known even more after his death. There were speculations about Dean’s car. Those who bought it and the parts of the car, like the engine and the tires met an accident and got killed. Fans still visit his grave in Indiana. There were companies, who sold T-shirts with Dean’s brooding face and posters. Jim Morrison who was influenced by James Dean lived fast and died hard too.

On the other hand, Dean has gained popularity through his hard work and his talent. He enrolled himself in drama during college and attended acting workshops that honed him to become an actor. That is enough said to consider a young American legendary actor to be called famous until today.

James Dean quotes are popular, but do you know what his favorite quote is? In a memorial built by a fan in California just 900 feet from the site of the accident, the plaque reads: “What is essential is invisible to the eye,” a quotation from Jean Antoine de Saint Exupery's "The Little Prince". It is not sure if that is Dean’s favorite, but he often reads that to those who are close to him and probably has significance for him.

How Charlie Chaplin Influenced the Silent Film Era

Charlie Chaplin, he was known as an actor, director and a song composer. His uniqueness has made it difficult for the next generation to follow his footsteps in his particular forte. Among the silent movie stars, he is the most loved and well-known from ‘City Lights’ to ‘Modern Times’. Aside from that, Charlie Chaplin quotes became popular and legendary. There are various categories from motivational, sad, love, and inspirational quotes. These quotes allow everyone to think about life and things that are happening around.

Charlie was known in silent films. Silent movie or silent film started between 1877 and 1880. Charlie was young when he started performing for silent comedies under Mack Sennett where he portrayed the little tramp. It is a character of a man that behaves with manners despite of the adversity and bullying. The character is rich in talent and rebellious at the same time, but with a gentle heart. ‘The Little Tramp’ is also referred by Charlie as ‘The Little Fellow’ but it is not always the role that he portrays in all of his films.

Charlie Chaplin was influenced by his predecessor Max Linder, a French comedian for silent films too. Chaplin even dedicated one of his films to Linder. What makes Charlie unique from the rest of the comedian in his time was his individual style. He performs comedy as derived from circus clowns and mime with combination of acrobatic, meaningful gesture, facial expression, and perfect timing. He has learned all of it from working with musicians, magicians, dancers, comedians and even with animals.

For him, the best way for the wit or tragedy to be located in a situation is to have an environment where something natural can happen. He has observed in theater and in film the strategy of keeping the audience’s attention is with exaggerated emotions that do not seem natural. He has seen the chance to create a different environment to allow nuance to come through.

Chaplin’s films have always started straight to the point. He has learned to have his viewer’s concentration by a line or an act that will let them continuously watch him and laugh. Even though the films do not have scripts, the emotions are always strong. He was seen always as a much older man with a moustache but it did not hide his expression. What everyone can benefit from his movies are the moral lessons. There are movies that were rated best but you can’t learn anything from it. Many comic artists have been influenced by Chaplin in terms of acting and style and none of them has reached what he has achieved.

“Simplicity is a difficult thing to achieve”, this is one of the famous Charlie Chaplin quotes. It is also one of the few things that Chaplin has left for the current generation and the next to come. The quotes were derived from passages but mostly are statements from his speeches that are remarkable. He truly deserves to be called the greatest comic artist of all time. With today’s technology, silent films are no longer popular as it was before. However, Chaplin’s work will remain as he has a lot of contributions in the film industry.

How to be Hepburn in a Hilton World

Books are written to record any significant events that had happened from the past. In todays generation, books are out in the market not just to provide historical information but to educate about the modern world. It may discuss health, saving money, business techniques and anything that can make someone rich or happy.

I swear I have not read this book yet but I am so excited to get my copy of this. Jordan Christy, not really a well-known person for me but according to sources, she is a music publicist and has worked already with celebrities. I've read reviews and comments regarding with her book entitled, “How to be a Hepburn in a Hilton World”. Sounds interesting right? It actually made me pause for awhile after I've read the title. Hepburn is Audrey Hepburn and Hilton is Paris Hilton. I asked myself, “How to be a Audrey Hepburn in a world of Paris Hilton?”. Very interesting.

Audrey Hepburn in her movie, 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'
I wonder how was she able to know what world did Audrey Hepburn had when she was still alive because no one really knows how she lived but only her. And how about Paris Hilton? Did she ever had a chance to live a life of Paris? I bet she never did. But after I have read a short summary of what is the book all about, I find it helpful. Not just for me but for all the girls out there. Offering help and guidance on how to be like Audrey Hepburn, girl with intelligence, beautiful and full of fun while not losing their morals and values.
